In 1973 the Federal government of General Yakubu Gowon in changing the currency from the metric to decimal, also changed the name of the Nigerian currency from Pounds to Naira. The which was equivalent to ten shillings became the major unit, while the minor unit was called the kobo. One hundred of the one kobo is equal to one naira.

Alhaji Ayinla mwúrà captured the new currency in his Vol.3 album titled Challenge Cup 1972 - *Owo Naira* taking the vast population of Nigerians to the 'classroom', educating them on the rudimentary aspects of the new currency.

Exactly just as a primary school teacher would repeat every line of a rythme twice to the understanding of his pupils, Ayinla mwúrà in the song repeated each aspect of the currency twice in such a way as to make it clear and understandable particularly to the grassroots.
