Nasarawa Governor, Abdullahi Sule, expressed his criticism on Thursday regarding the expenditure made by former President Muhammadu Buhari on the country's refineries.

Governor Sule highlighted that an extensive sum of $19 billion was allocated to these facilities; however, none of them are operational. Instead, he noted that the aforementioned amount was utilized for the construction of the Dangote Refinery located in Lagos.

Despite the federal government's ownership of three refineries situated in Kaduna, Port Harcourt (Rivers), and Warri (Delta), none of them are operating at their optimal capacity.

During his appearance on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily, Governor Sule lamented the lack of desired outcomes despite the significant funds disbursed.

"In the course of eight years, ex-President Buhari spent an amount exceeding the $19 billion invested by Dangote in constructing a refinery," he acknowledged, emphasizing that this sum was one and a half times larger than the combined size of the nation's three refineries. "From the government side, I believe we did not adequately execute our responsibilities," he conceded.

Additionally, Governor Sule pointed out that while the existing refineries have a collective capacity of 450,000 barrels per day, Dangote's refinery boasts an impressive capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.

Sule suggested that the previous administration should have concentrated on fully operationalizing at least one refinery, rather than attempting to repair all three simultaneously.
