HISTORY OF GWANDARA AND GITATA.
By Magashi Musa

The GWANDARA people generally believed that they Migrated from Kano about 1476 to escape religious persecution or forced conversion to Islam. The people were asked to abandoned their Juju and become Muslims and they refused. For them, Juju dance is better than Moslem prayer. They left Kano and GWANDARA became their name, the short form of GWANDA-RAWA. The revival of Islam during the reigned of Sarki Muhammadu Rumfa of the 2nd half of 15th century created tension among the GWANDARA who believe mostly on their culture and traditions. As such lead to their migration from Kano to different part of Middle belt of Nigeria.

HISTORY OF GITATA

The name GITATA have its root from the phrase GIDZI-ATATA. This was as a result of our great grand parents who settled at uphill of GITATA in other to escape tribal war, slavery and forceful conversion to Islam to descended or come down and settled at the mountain feet or plain land. When the colonial came during the construction of the road that linked Keffi and Kaduna through GITATA. They asked for the name name of the village, They told them GIDZI-ATATA meaning house in a plain land. They now changed the name from GIDZI-ATATA to GITATA. Our GITATA is absolutely a GWANDARA independent settlement and has a chieftaincy title of its own like others. The GITATA traditional chieftaincy with one overall, divine chief and subjects were in existence even before the coming of others ethnic group in the land. Among which included the following;1.Gado Abba 2.Ajako Maiyaki 3.Aganda Sheje 4.Gafiya Ogoji 5.Abamuza Bako 6.Duniya Amutu1879-1886 7.Anbashan Taru 1895-1902 .8.Tamusu Laura 1902-1917. 9.Takari Bako 1917-28. 10.Danwaki Giwa 1928-40. 11.Taru Bako 1940-42. 12.Ogoji pamutu 1944-51.13.Busa Skate 1951-70.14.Abdullahi Ogoji 1970-2002. 15.
