HISTORY OF YORUBA Cont'd
YORUBA VS BENIN I
Why were the touch of Benin never found in ìlè-Ifè and Õyõ?
Let burst their bubbles
ASSUMPTION
Let assume Oduduwa is from Benin based on their given name IZODUWA
THEIR CLAIM
They said we should be grateful to them for giving us their son (Oduduwa) that civilized us if not we would had been an uncivilized, uncultured tribe and the worst tribe in Africa
FROM HISTORY
(Let say Oduduwa was the Edo Prince)
Ifè had been in existence before Oodua came to Ifè, infact he met Obatala in Ifè.
He was welcomed (as we often welcome strangers).
He became a citizen of ife and was later installed as a king.
Take note: He first became a citizen of ifè before he became king.
How do I know?
He obviously renounced everything he knew about Edo (if he was truly from Edo).
He totally forget
their language,
way of dressings,
food,
and even culture.
Fact: If Odua had retained Igodomigodo's identity
-some part of ifè and Oyo ought to be speaking Edo
-some of their names ought to be passed down
-how come we don't have Benin ancestral foods passed down to us?
Civilization
On the contrary we civilized them!
How?
Oranmiyan the grandson of Oodua at this point was an Omoluabi.
If Oodua was an Edo man, and he had became a citizen of Ifè every of his offspring are Omoluabi (GNS101) remember J.J Rawlings, Remember Obama!
How Did We Civilized Edo
-It was an historical fact that Oranmiyan was the first person to rode a horse into Igodomigodo.
The first time they see a horse in Edo was from Oranmiyan. (There is a carved bronze to this effect )
-according to their own very history Oranmiyan ruled for just 2 years and after this two years they began to bear Yoruba names and certain part of Edo has language with Yoruba words intertwined.
-Oranmiyan changed their system of governance which is the pivotal factor of civilization.
They were ruled initially by Ogiso which is a word derived from Ogie meaning king or ruler but upon the arrival of Oranmiyan they began to use Yoruba word Öba to call their kings.
(Check the meaning of Oba in their language and compare it to what it means in Yoruba)
-Oranmiyan set the similar monarchial system of ile-ife at Igodomigodo which is still being use today in this 21st century.
Again he installed his son Owomika which they called Eweka as Oba and every of their kings till date are descendants of Oodua through Oranmiyan and through Eweka.
Guess what ?
Oranmiyan first stopped at a place and built a palace before entering Igodomigodo and till date it is said any would be king in Edo will spend 7 days in there before mounting the throne.
-And the name Benin was coined by Oranmiyan and it is what they will bear till tomorrow no wonder many people never heard Igodomigodo
Tell me who civilized who?
Let call Lagos into reference!
The culture of Benin still rob off on Lagos monarch system till date,
certain Benin words are still found in Lagos just because Lagos became suzerain to Benin at some point which was well documented
Why is the touch of Benin never found in Ife and Oyo?
It is funny to assert that Oduduwa has no Yoruba connotations
Let me ask you , are these following words Edo?
1. Edumare
2. Olo'odumare
3. Olo'odua/Olo'oduwa
4. Eledua/Eleduwa
5. Osuba
6. Ele'edumare
7. Osumare
8. Olo'orun
9. Ele'eda
10. Öràn
11. Õrõ
12. Adeyanju
13. Temiyan
14. Oromiyan
15. Odu
We have several words with O (ho/oh) in Yoruba language and it is a rule that you omit a vowel sound or word when we have two consecutively vowels in a word for instance like
Olo'oduwa will become Oloduwa, Ele'eduwa will become Eleduwa
Olo'orun will become Olorun
This explained why some people will call Odùdùwa Oòdùa and even Odùa
For you to believe that Oduduwa could not had been a Yoruba word shows you don't understand the language
CORRUPT WORD
Corrupt word are often shorter and simpler to pronounce when compared to the original word
The word Izoduwa is so simple to pronounce for any Omoluabi there is no way we would had corrupt it to a harder word like Oduduwa which is longer and harder to pronounce
Ileubinu was corrupted to Ubinu then to Benin all corrupted version are simpler to the original word and easier to pronounce but why does Oduduwa sound harder to pronounce to Izoduwa?
Even if Yoruba migrated from Benin there was no single historical fact suggesting Benin civilized the Yoruba.
The so called Benin Empire was a clue from the Oyo Empire and they never clashed because they believed and knew they are brothers.
Their so called bronze work came much later after the Yoruba's art works. Yoruba had been carving bronze before they carved a single one
We respect the Edos, they are rich in culture which is a pride to Africa
We are not looking for any lost brother talk less of claiming seniority that is not our way.
If we can't be brothers then we should not be enemies either
