THE POWER OF LOVE
There have been 45 American presidents. Only one was forced to resign. He would have been impeached if he had not resigned. Richard Nixon.
Richard Nixon was one of America's most successful presidents. Yes, he succeeded in passing bills and creating policies that had a big influence on America and the world at large. Yet, he is certainly the most repulsive president. While there are arguments about who is the best president, there is no debate about the one no one wants to be like-Richard Nixon. Richard Nixon is the standard for anything wrong. He is an example of how power corrupts absolutely. He is the one historians and columnists refer to when they want to point to something terrible with the American presidency.
Why? Richard Nixon used his powers to spy on his opponents. Not just that, but he did all he could with his power to cover it up. It took a long battle to find him guilty.
So many psychologists and commentators have attempted to rationalize and understand the man. It is public knowledge that he was a control freak, insecure, and hardly trusted anyone. He believed everyone was his enemy, he did not know how to keep relationships, and was awkward in social circles. The most profound explanation for Nixon was a comment his Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, made. He said, "Can you imagine what this man would have been like if somebody had loved him?"
Read that again. "Can you imagine what this man would have been like if somebody had loved him?"
Richard Nixon grew up in a family where love was in short supply. He sought love from his parents, but he did not get it. They preferred his brother, their favorite son. Throughout his childhood, he would crave and fight for attention without getting any. Overtime, his attitude solidified into mistrust for anyone.
There is no question, Richard Nixon was brilliant. Richard Nixon was hardworking. Richard Nixon was a political grandmaster. Richard Nixon was gifted. But he lacked love in childhood and it ruined him forever. Instead of going down in history as one of the most successful presidents, his place is on the other end of the spectrum- a bad example.
Dear Parents, love your children. Love them again. Love them again! And for others out there, just love any child that you can! You might be saving the future Richard Nixon's.
